Aaron Carter, Director of Total Sport was delighted to announce that Hospice North Shore would be the Charity Partner to the 2012 Coastal Challenge.  Aaron has a special connection with Hospice North Shore who helped care for his mother Sandy, who eventually lost her battle with cancer in 2003.

The Hospice staff were amazing with Mum and the whole family, during what was an incredibly difficult time.  For some time I’ve wanted to give something back to Hospice, so supporting Hospice North Shore on the 10th Anniversary of the Coastal Challenge  seemed like the perfect time  - Hospice is truly a remarkable organisation”.

So what is the Coastal Challenge?  It is a coastal run and walk adventure that sees participants taking on the stunning North Shore coastline. Since 2003 thousands of competitors have walked, run, jumped and, for the longer distances, rock-hopped and waded down the North Shore coastline to Windsor Reserve in Devonport. It is suitable for all fitness levels and there are events for families.

Pure off-road goodness and right on our back doorstep! Now the Coastal Challenge is not as scary as you think! It has a 6km, 11km and 17km run and walk options, these contain far less water interaction than the two "biggies" (the 22km and the 33km run events).
We’re Taking Up The Challenge – Will You?

The team being put through their paces.
In celebration of becoming the Charity Partner for the Coastal Challenge, we have put together a Hospice team to run the 33km Full Monty Relay.  The team is made up of Carol, Lynn and Gaynor from Fundraising, Dianna our Office Manager and Matthew, our Social Worker.  We have named ourselves the “Hospice Hobblers”.

We have even found a personal trainer who has agreed to take us on for free….Bridgete Lal from TomFit… she reckons she can whip us into shape. Boy it’s a big ask, as none of us can even run at the moment – but look out come 25th February! The aim for us isn’t to finish with a flash time…it’s to finish!” We will also be raising funds to support our patients and their families. We will be keeping you up to date on our progress through this website page, our fundraise on line page and our facebook page – the good, the bad and the ugly…

Will you take up the challenge with us? Why not join The Warehouse Glenfield and Westpac Lake Road and put a team of 5 friends or work colleagues together and take up the challenge of the “Fully Monty” or if you want to push yourself, you could do the whole 33km yourself. If that sounds too energetic, there is always the 6km,11km or 17km walk or run. To enter go to Coastal Challenge www.coastalchallenge.co.nz  - a portion of all registration will come to Hospice.  We would also challenge you to raise $250 per person entering for Hospice North Shore, you can set up an online fundraising page on Fundraise online. www.fundraiseonline.co.nz  (checkout the Hospice Hobblers page) and send it to all you family and friends to support you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact to contact me on carolh@nshospice.org.nz or give Carol Herbert a call on 09 486 1688.
