Carol's Brief
It really did seem like a good idea when I suggested it………! While I knew I was unfit, I have discovered just how unfit I really am – the Coastal Challenge is a great motivator to turn that around. I am definitely finding the training hard work and the body is rebelling, regularly reminding me I’m not as young as I like to think I am – but I am already noticing a difference. I am becoming a little nervous about how quickly the event is coming around, but I am enjoying training with the rest of the team – it is proving to be a great way to get to know my work colleagues better |

Lynn's Brief
When my colleague Carol Herbert talked about the Coastal Challenge little did I know that I had got myself roped into being part of the “team” 6km of the 33km Full Monty. It didn’t seem that bad, until she explained what “Coastal Challenge” actually meant. I’m sure the blood drained from my face as she told me. But in all reality I would have given it a go anyway in support of what Total Sport are doing and what our patients go through every day. So new shoes at the ready, my gym seeing me more and more; and the pavements of the North Shore being pounded every other day as I set off with 6km in mind. I’m up for the challenge, just hope the body and knee hold up. I’ll keep you up to date on my progress

Matthew's Brief
The emphatic advice to invest in, and use, a large tub of Vaseline on the day of the event came after I agreed to join the Hospice Hobblers, with the aim of completing the Coastal Challenge. Hmmm...ah well.... Training for a specific event, attending bi-weekly ‘boot camp’ training sessions and the Vaseline, will all be new experiences for me and I think excitement and anxiety will take equal turns as the prevailing emotion in the lead up to the event! Regardless of how it all turns out, no doubt it will make for a great story someday! |

Gaynor's Brief
I’m not sure how I got roped in to this. I think Carol decided someone had to represent the geriatrics and pointed at me! Oh dear, now I daren’t let the side down! I don’t mind walking, but it’s the running that’s got my knees facing a challenge. Actually, it will be a challenge, but when I think about the challenges that our patients and families face every day, I have to be able to do this for them. |

Dianna's Brief
Well there is such at thing as being in the right place at the wrong time!!! Being passionate about working at Hospice led me to naively answer an email from Carol which put my name firmly down in writing as a team member for this challenge. No ifs or buts, Carol had it locked in and there was no going back! I currently attend a boot camp on a regular basis so thought, why not.... this can't be too hard, but then I had not met our trainer Bridgette at that stage! When things are getting a little tough I am reminded of what our patients and families are facing and this brings things back into perspective. So on a certain day in February there will be a weary bunch nearing the finish line in Devonport after a grueling challenge and a large donation to our hospice from all our lovely supporters who will have sponsored us. |
