2006 Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay

Kumeu River Chardonnay has been described by many commentators as one of the finest wines in the country. Michael Cooper rates the wine as a “Super Classic” and Wine Spectator Magazine from the US has described Kumeu River as “New Zealand's best Chardonnay year in year out.” The past fourteen vintages of Kumeu River Chardonnay have rated 90 points or better in this influential magazine.

Kumeu River Chardonnay is drawn from six different vineyard sites in the Kumeu Region. We are particularly careful in selecting only the very best grapes from these vineyards for our Kumeu River Estate label.

The 2006 vintage was a delight from bud burst to harvest and the Chardonnays from this year are considered to be the finest we have seen. The wine from this spectacular vintage is ripe, floral and delicious. The beautiful peach and hazelnut aromas along with the rich silky texture are distinct characteristics of this wine even at this young stage. This is undoubtedly one of the best examples we have seen of this wine and is sheer pleasure to taste and drink.

This wine will benefit greatly from a period of bottle maturation of two to four years
