Nancie Giblin: Our Volunteer of the Year

Congratulations to Nancie Giblin who was awarded the 2009 Elsie Tillet Hospice Volunteer of the Year Award.

For the past 17 years, Nancie has volunteered mostly in our Takapuna shop. Currently she is responsible for preparing stock for sale and managing the shop on the Manager's days off.

When asked how she came to volunteer for Hospice, Nancie said "I was reunited with some old friends who had nursed with me in our early years and we all decided to volunteer. I love working with like minded volunteers and meeting the local community. I feel proud to be part of an organisation that offers peace and dignity to the terminally ill, and help for their carers irrespective of colour, class or creed".

Those who nominated Nancie said she is dedicated to making a success of the shop and is lovely to work with. They said that there is nothing that is too much bother for her and that she has always been ready to step in when needed to assist staff shortages. The fashion parades at our early Christmas functions were a success thanks to Nancie's energy and style. Her guidance for all the volunteers she has been involved with has been greatly appreciated.

Takapuna Manager, Tom Eglinton said "You can find some real treasures in our shops. Nancie is priceless; she is an extremely hard worker, has a wealth of experience and knows how to keep a young man in line! She is a wonderful person and thoroughly deserves the award."
