Tuber Tumour

Orchid

Who planted this bloom so well
That flowers inside me
Was it I sowed a seed
In mindless youth
Raising my glass to the sun

Who nurtures its roots with love
That its red blossom spreads
So quickly, pushing all aside
Uncaring of the bitter consequences
Its awful beauty brings

Does the relentless drip
Irrigating through the sharp steel thorn
Feed its fleshy tuber
Or is it, as they promise
Roundup

Is then my soil so rich
Loam, compost and clay
This orchid cannot fail but thrive
Am I the gardener
Or the garden
