Wilf Marley pictured with his award. |
Wilf Marley, our former Chairman and a founding Trustee, was honoured by the award of the Queen’s Service Medal for community service. Wilf has been a Trustee since 1988. Wilf’s other community services include 25 years as a member of the Rotary Club of Northcote and its district, 15 years as an elected councillor of Northcote Borough Council and 10 years as a member of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority. In addition, Wilf has been awarded Trustee of the Year by the New Zealand Trustee Association.
He said, “I firmly believe that volunteer based organisations such as Hospice not only fulfill a desperate need in our community, but also epitomize all that is good about humanity, emphasised by the incredible care and support that so many people give voluntarily to ease the burdens of one of life’s greatest challenges. I find this involvement and commitment by so many to be inspirational, as it has been for me for the 15 years of my involvement with North Shore Hospice”.
